JUNE GROOM MIXTAPE by Cheekie Albay

He was never big on the love stuff.
He’s always in front of the tube howling at NBA players, scarfing down cheeseburgers, laughing at your driving, or making dick and fart jokes like an adolescent. He couldn’t even stand to watch an hour of Before Sunrise with you, grumbling that you should’ve put on Reservoir Dogs instead.
But then, out of the blue, he asked you to marry him! He asked you to make him the happiest man alive and, with fumbling, trembling fingers, popped open a blue velvet box to reveal a sparkling little thing that, for a few seconds, took your breath away. And the whole scene was better than anything you’ve ever seen on TV or in the movies. Because it was real. And it was yours. And he was part of it.
Now, you’re getting married. With flower arrangements and a ginormous cake and a gown you can barely breathe in and relatives you can no longer recognize flying in from all corners of the earth—the whole dizzying, crazy shebang.
But he’s been a saint through it all. His only request? That he gets to choose the music at the reception. So you know there’s going to be Foo Fighters in there, maybe even something raucous enough to shock your nearly-deaf grandparents back into hearing.
You don’t mind. You trust him completely.
Made this mixtape for Val, who asked me last year to make him one filled with unconventional wedding songs and has probably forgotten all about his request by now.
